Digital Innovation in Focus: mediSIGHT Launches at SWFT

Innovate have successfully deployed the mediSIGHT Ophthalmology Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system at South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT). This next-generation solution replaces the legacy Medisoft system, bringing modern functionality and aligning with national standards to enhance eye healthcare.

Developed with 18 years of feedback from multidisciplinary teams, mediSIGHT supports the National Ophthalmology Database (NOD), which monitors outcomes for cataract surgery and age-related macular degeneration services across the UK. SWFT’s participation in the NOD is essential for driving quality improvements, setting benchmarks, and shaping guidance and policy for patients and stakeholders alike.

The transition to mediSIGHT at Warwick and Stratford Eye Units was a collaborative effort between Innovate, SWFT, and mediSIGHT. Innovate’s project teams provided outstanding support to SWFT colleagues during the go-live phase, ensuring a smooth and efficient deployment.

Samer Elsherbiny, Clinical Lead at SWFT, praised the delivery of the project, stating: "The process was delivered on schedule and went smoothly across two sites. Innovate’s dedicated support, combined with the availability of senior leaders and project teams, ensured a successful transition.

“The new system has been an important milestone in maintaining our electronic patient record, and we are eager to explore its workflow and audit capabilities further as we become more familiar with it.”

Since its launch, mediSIGHT has earned high praise from the Ophthalmology team for its modern, user-friendly design. Its split-screen functionality, clearer data displays, and streamlined navigation simplify workflows and reduce the time spent on administrative tasks.

Enhanced features such as customisable letter templates and free-hand note recording support better record-keeping and save time on repetitive tasks, while the system’s ability to generate clinical audits with ease has further enhanced efficiency. Together, these improvements have empowered staff to focus more on patient care and deliver safer, higher-quality outcomes.

To ensure the full potential of mediSIGHT is realised, Innovate has initiated a work plan to standardise its use across sub-specialties and strengthen governance measures. This ongoing effort will support the transition into business as usual and ensure the upgrade is maximised to its fullest capacity.

Innovate is proud to have contributed to the successful delivery of this transformative system, improving patient care and empowering healthcare professionals to deliver the highest quality eye healthcare.
